Academic Writing Skills (Basic)

About This Course

This course is an introduction to academic writing for English Language Learners, focusing on essay development, grammatical correctness, student will learn about the importance of correctly citing sources in their writing and university norms regarding academic honesty. The course consists of three units includes a review of basic grammar terminology and understanding; writing effective sentences and paragraphs; introductions and conclusions; strategies for writing longer texts; and thesis statements.

Course objectives

1- Students will be able to write an essay with an introduction, a body and a conclusion.

2- Student will be able to Write topic sentences and supporting it with evidence.

3- Students will be able to quote and cite the sources that used.

Course Structure


The course has 3 units, one unit per week, and the total time of the course is (1:30) to (2) hours distributed over 3 units, and the time taken for each unit ranges between (15-25) minutes based on the learners speed.

- The purpose of the quizzes in this course is to enhance learning.
